Hamilton County Schools is proud to serve the more than 41,000 children that live in the greater Chattanooga area.  The city of Chattanooga, with about 150,000 residents, is the largest municipality located in Hamilton County. 

The city mixes breathtaking beauty with southern charm in a lively downtown.  From the historic homes of Ferger Place to the modern condos nestled along the banks of the Tennessee River, it’s a short distance to parks, restaurants and shopping. 

If downtown living is not the choice for you, you’ll find charming neighborhoods within a short driving distance to the downtown area.  For example, Chattanooga’s Northshore is filled with quaint shops, restaurants and the stunning Coolidge Park, which features a beautifully restored 100 year old carousel, a pavilion, an interactive play fountain, and lots of open space.  The surrounding communities of Lookout Mountain and Signal Mountain offer breathtaking views of the city and plenty of space for enjoying family activities, such as picnicking or for the more athletic there are plenty of hiking and biking trails.

Families will find some of the most child-friendly activities available anywhere, including the largest freshwater aquarium in the world, the Tennessee Aquarium.  Other places to put on your must see list include the Creative Discovery Museum and the Chattanooga IMAX.  Just minutes from downtown Chattanooga, Lookout Mountain is the perfect destination for out of the ordinary experiences and amazing natural beauty. Three top rated world famous natural attractions call Lookout Mountain home and showcase the natural beauty of the mountain and views of the Chattanooga Valley. Trek through Rock City's natural wonders and "see seven states" views, tour Ruby Falls, America's deepest cave and largest underground waterfall accessible to the public, and ride the Incline Railway the world's steepest passenger railway.

The arts flourish in Chattanooga.  Chattanooga’s rich arts scene is second to none. Take in one of the nation’s largest collections of American art and discover the many galleries and emerging artists at the Bluff View, North Shore and Southside districts. You’ll want to visit and hear the incredible stories at Chattanooga’s abundant civil war, and cultural sites. There’s always something going on in Chattanooga. Be sure to make time for the many outstanding music festivals and theatre performances throughout the entire year.  The city also plays host to a number of street festivals, such as Riverbend and Chattanooga Nightfall.
