Project Inspire is a teacher residency whose main goal is to inspire teachers to teach and students to learn. The program gets smart, motivated teachers into Chattanooga classrooms where they’re needed most.
Teacher residencies are much like medical residencies. Project Inspire residents are paired with exceptional clinical instructors of mathematics in junior high classrooms and are guided by these skilled mentors throughout their residency year. Residents are able to observe their clinical instructor in the classroom for an entire semester then transition into lead teaching for the second semester of the school year. Their clinical instructor is there the entire time leading, inspiring, and teaching the resident to be the best teacher they can be.
While teaching full day mathematics alongside his or her clinical instructor, each Project Inspire resident is also taking specially designed courses to complete a master’s degree at Tennessee Technological University’s Chattanooga campus. Residents additionally participate in innovative Project Inspire seminars and professional development opportunities. Residents also earn a Tennessee license for teaching in middle school.
You aren’t in this alone. Each year, we recruit a cohort of up to 20 residents so you go through the program with others. And there are graduates ahead of you who have paved the way and are eager to help keep the flame going.
