Alternative Schools and Programs

The Hamilton County Department of Education offers several alternative education settings for students.  Click on the links in the text below for detailed information about each program.

Students with several special education needs, may qualify to attend the Dawn School.

Students who are behind in credits in high school and at risk of dropping out or have already dropped out, may qualify to attend Hamilton County High School and receive their high school diploma.

Students who wish to be challenged in high school, can apply for Middle College High School at Chattanooga State Technical Community College. This program allows students to finish high school work while taking college-level courses simultaneously. In many cases, students complete their graduation requirements for a high school diploma and receive an Associate's Degree from the college.

Washington Alternative School is a program for students who have been suspended or expelled from the regular school setting for behavior reasons. Students are remanded to Washington for a specific amount of time and must fulfill "seat time" before they are allowed to return to their zone school.
