Zero Tolerance Offenses
Dr. Lee McDade ~ Assistant Superintendent
Zero Tolerance offenses are outline by state law. They are enacted by the school administration upon investigation and confirmation of an eligible offense. Zero Tolerance offenses include:
- Assaulting a teacher/administrator
- Weapons on campus
- Possession of drug paraphernalia
Zero Tolerance expulsions (typically removing the student from the district for one calendar year from date of offense) can be appealed to the Central Office.
The Deputy Superintendent of Administrative Services hears all appeals to Zero Tolerance offenses. At this hearing, the Deputy Superintendent will meet with the student and his/her parent or guardian to discuss the incident. The Zero Tolerance can be upheld, can be changed to a long-term suspension or the student can be sent to Washington Alternative for a specified amount of time.
Students who have been suspended for a Zero Tolerance offense must contact the Deputy Superintendent of Administrative Services to schedule an appeal. Expulsions from school for a Zero Tolerance offense that is not appealed will remain in effect for one calendar year.
Upon completion of a Zero Tolerance punishment, students must contact the Deputy Superintendent for re-admission to the district.
