2011-2012 Calendar Options

In an effort to gain parent input regarding the school calendar, HCDE is posting the two draft options for the 2011-2012 school calendar.
Both options are below (follow the link to see the proposed calendar):
Option 1 - teachers report August 1, school starts August 10 (Fall Break = October 17)
Option 2 - teachers report August 11, school starts August 22 (NO FALL BREAK)
A few considerations:
- The state sets the TCAP testing window
- State law requires 150 days of instruction PRIOR to the beginning of testing
HCDE will be calling all families and staff asking them to vote on their favorite option via a phone survey the week of September 27. There is no means for regular community members to vote on the calendar. Input will be catalogued and presented to the Board of Education at the October or November meeting.
Staff members please note:
With Option 2, teachers will only receive ONE paycheck in August 2011. The last paycheck for the 2010/2011 school year will be August 5. The first paycheck for the 2011/2012 school year will be September 2. (By law, the system can only pay employees if they work at least one day within a pay period. By reporting after August 5, teachers will not be paid for that pay period and will not receive a check on August 19, 2011).
