HCDE Wins Federal History Grant

Hamilton County Schools is one of just 124 districts in the country to receive a grant to improve the quality of teaching American History.

The Teaching American History grant program aims to enhance teachers' understanding of American history through intensive professional development, including study trips to historic sites and mentoring with professional historians.

Hamilton County will receive nearly $1 million for the grant. The money will be used to provide intensive professional development to enhance teachers' content knowledge. Proposed professional development consists of six components:

  • Masters/Educational Specialist Degree (30 teachers)
  • Partner teachers (30 teachers)
  • Pre-Service Teachers (10 teachers)
  • Consortium of history teachers (100 teachers)
  • eLesson Learning System (all)
  • Data Informed History Instruction Model (all)
