Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce

The Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce is actively engaged in supporting public education. In 2005, the Chamber developed an Education Inititiave to contend with the issue of workforce development in the public school system from preschool through the students’ exit points which may extend as far as the Baccaluaureate degree. The initiative is intended to develop business and education partnerships to help optimize curriculum, technology, internships, transferability and system accountability. The initiative seeks to prepare the best possible career prepared graduates who will move into the local market. It is a comprehensive plan for the business community to engage in a productive and collaborative relationship with the public education system from preschool through higher education.

The Education Initiative Strategic Plan has two goals:

To initiate an ongoing dialogue between business persons and educators about workforce needs and the resources required to meet those needs.
To work to achieve broad-based community support for and investment in public education at all levels.

The Education Initiative is a four-year action plan funded by the Chattanooga Can Do program and is an outgrowth of successful existing workforce development projects run by the Chamber including Reality Check, Who Wants to Be A Millionaire, Career Crunch and the Career Readiness Certificate.
