New Board Approved School Zones for the 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 school years.
On Thursday, April 19 2007, the Board of Education approved two proposals for new
high school zones for the 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 school years. The new zones are
the result of two new middle/high schools currently under construction. Middle school
and elementary school zones remain the same.
The first plan features new high school zones for the Signal Mountain, Red Bank,
Hixson and Soddy Daisy areas. These zones are the result of a new middle/high school
being built on Signal Mountain. These new zones will take effect on July 1, 2008
in time for the 2008-2009 school year when the new school opens.
New Zones Adopted for the 2008-2009 School Year
The second plan details high school zones for the eastern portion of the county
in the Ooltewah, Apison and East Brainerd areas. These new zones are the result
of a new middle/high school being built in East Hamilton County. These zones will
not go into effect until the 2009-2010 school year when that new school opens. Students
in this area will continue to attend their current zone school until July 1, 2009.
New Zones Adopted for the 2009-2010 School Year
As part of this overall rezoning effort, the District also adopted a grandfather
clause which allows students, in specific grades who are affected by the new zones,
to remain at their current high school through graduation. Please contact Gayle
Patterson, Student Transfer Specialist at (423)209-8496 for information regarding
the grandfathering clause, specific zones and the process for applying for a transfer.
