Chris Williamson

Today’s #HCSHeroes Spotlight is Chris Williamson, a visual art and theatre teacher at Tyner Middle Academy. Mr. Williamson, who also serves as department chair, has been at Tyner Middle for 17 years and is a beloved teacher on campus.

“Mr. Williamson is a wonderful leader that exemplifies being a caring and hard-working teacher,” said Ahmee Kelly, one of Mr. Williamson’s colleagues. “He is one of our kids' favorite teachers because he makes learning fun but communicates a high level of expectation for our students. He is always available when it comes to serving the school whether that be coaching track, covering duty posts, beautifying the campus, or injecting humor into our meetings.”

As a visual art and theatre teacher, the COVID-19 pandemic has created some unique challenges for Mr. Williamson, but that hasn’t stopped him from finding creative solutions so his students can learn.

“One thing I have done is make Quarantine Art Kits for my students,” said Mr. Williamson. “Along with the help of donations from friends and family through an Amazon Wish List, I was able to create these kits with the materials needed for students to work from home and at school without having to share materials. My students have been very responsible with keeping up with their materials.”

Mr. Williamson adds, “I am very proud of my school, teachers and students, for keeping our school a safe place to learn during the pandemic.”

The efforts of our teachers and staff are truly heroic, and we are proud to have people like Mr. Williamson on our team to support our students!
