My Minutes Matter Info-graphic. Last spring, many of our students lost essential learning minutes in the classroom due to school closures. In order to recover those learning minutes and strengthen student literacy, Hamilton County Schools is launching My Minutes Matter, an initiative that provides extended opportunities for priority schools students to continue learning outside of the school day.

  • To recover minutes lost during spring school closures
  • To strengthen literacy through increasing core knowledge
  • To expand the opportunity gap
  • To narrow the achievement gaps

How the Program Works:

  • The program offers learning activities in vocabulary, reading, science, social studies, and career exploration with a focus on increasing students’ core knowledge in order to strengthen comprehension.
  • The activities are available easily online through the Canvas app. They can be accessed at any time of day - even through your phone! Whether waiting in line at the grocery store or on the way to school, children can continue learning through MY MINUTES MATTER.
  • The program also invites parents to learn with their children. Parents have access to the “Parent University” through the child’s Canvas app. They can participate in their own learning. Topics may include: how healthy sleep habits support learning, cyber bullying, warning signs of childhood anxiety, the path to college and more. Students can earn double points when a parent or family member reads to them. Finally, MY MINUTES MATTER also includes a feature called “ Convo Connect” designed to support dialogue that is centered around four guiding questions.
  • Students are provided incentives for reaching thresholds along the way.

Students' learning minutes matter, so get started today!
