The Institute of Advanced Agriculture, Food, Natural Resources and Technology at Hixson High is a comprehensive agriculture education program that merges academic knowledge with the application of real world skills in a hands on learning environment. There are three programs of study: Animal and Veterinary Science, Land Management, and Horticulture Science - Food Science. On campus, students have access to two modern greenhouses, a solar panel array, commercial-scale hydroponic systems, aquaculture tanks, and a soon to be built livestock teaching barn to aid in their agricultural education. Students in this institute also benefit from a partnership with the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency where students assist with the management of state lands adjacent to the school campus. Students studying agriculture in high school are well positioned to pursue additional studies in sciences, engineering, production agriculture, ornamental landscaping, and natural resource management as well as many highly sought-after technical careers.
