Posted on 05/15/2025

May 15, 2025 - Hamilton County Schools is proud of the amazing seniors graduating this year. One of those standout students is Shaniyah Norwood, the valedictorian of Tyner Academy's 2025 graduating class.

When asked about her plans after high school, Shaniyah smiled and said, “I’m excited to start college. I’ve worked really hard to get here, and I’m ready for what’s next.” She shared that school has always been important to her, and being named valedictorian is a huge honor. “It wasn’t easy, but I stayed focused,” she said. “I knew what I wanted.”

This fall, Shaniyah is headed to Lee University, where she plans to major in Psychology. “I’ve always been interested in how people think and why they do what they do,” she said. She hopes to one day use her degree to help others, especially young people. “I want to be someone who listens and understands,” she added.

Shaniyah also wants to be an example for other students to step out of their comfort zones. “I want to be bolder,” she said. “It’s okay to go after things that feel scary. That’s how you grow.” Her bravery and determination have helped her reach this moment, and she hopes others will do the same.

She also offered advice to students coming after her. “Watch who you are around—be around good people,” she said. “The people you spend time with can either build you up or bring you down.” Her words show wisdom and maturity beyond her years, and she’s ready to take that mindset with her into college and beyond.

Shaniyah’s story is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when hard work meets courage. As she leaves Tyner Academy, she carries a message of strength, hope, and boldness for the next generation.
