I’m not feeling well, what should I do?

I just got tested for COVID-19, but I don’t have results yet, what should I do?

  • Stay home. Fill out the MANDATORY EMPLOYEE SELF-REPORTING FORM, and notify your supervisor. Request a sub, if necessary.
  • You must stay home until you get the results.
  • Then use the Employee Return to Work Decision Guidance to determine when to return to work with School Health nurse clearance.
  • Note: If you are quarantined because you are considered a “close contact” to someone that tested positive, you may not return to work for 14 days, even if you get a negative COVID-19 test result.

I was just notified that I tested positive for COVID-19, now what?

  • Stay home. Notify your supervisor and, if you have not done so already, fill out the  MANDATORY EMPLOYEE SELF-REPORTING FORM.
    • During school hours, notify your supervisor by calling the school or by calling your supervisor directly. Find your school here. Notify your supervisor.
    • After school hours, call the COVID-19 Hotline at 423-498-6740. This number is ONLY for staff. You may also notify your supervisor.
  • You will not be allowed to return to work until you have been cleared by the Health Department.
  • If you feel well enough, you may teach remotely until you are cleared to return.

I was just notified that I tested negative for COVID-19, now what?

  • Notify your school during school hours and, if you have not done so already, fill out the MANDATORY EMPLOYEE SELF-REPORTING FORM. Be prepared to show proof of your negative test result by emailing a copy of your negative test results to employeecovid@hcde.org.
  • Use the Employee Return to Work Decision Guidance to determine when to return to work with School Health nurse clearance.
  • Note: If you are quarantined because you are considered a “close contact” to someone that tested positive, you may not return to school for 14 days, even if you get a negative COVID-19 test result.

I was just notified that I was a “close contact” of someone that tested positive for COVID-19, now what?

  • Stay home. Notify your school during school hours and fill out the MANDATORY EMPLOYEE SELF-REPORTING FORM. Request a sub, if necessary.
  • Expect to teach remotely until you are cleared to return by an HCS COVID Call Center nurse even if you get a negative COVID-19 test result.
  • If you begin to feel ill, speak with a medical professional.
  • If you choose to get tested, notify your school during school hours and fill out the MANDATORY EMPLOYEE SELF-REPORTING FORM.
  • You will not be permitted to return to work for 14 days, even if you get a negative COVID-19 test result.

I’m not experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19, but I was tested for my own reasons, now what?
