Today’s #HCSHeroes Spotlight is Jamelie Johns, assistant principal at Nolan Elementary. Mrs. Johns is in her 18th year with Hamilton County Schools, and still finding innovative ways to meet the needs of students and families at her school.
To ensure the safety of students during COVID-19, Mrs. Johns orchestrated a new dismissal process that uses an app to let the school know when parents have arrived on campus to pick up their child. She helped parents enroll in the app and trained teachers to manage the system from their classroom. Although Mrs. Johns spearheaded the project, she says implementing this process was a collaborative effort.
“Our entire staff has stepped up and are on duty in both the morning and the afternoon as it is a team effort to make this work,” said Mrs. Johns. “The office staff has worked diligently to help troubleshoot problems with parents. We have teachers outside everyday scanning parent’s phones as they enter the school carlines and helping the students get in the car safely.”
The efforts of our teachers and staff are truly heroic, and we are proud to have people like Mrs. Johns on our team to support our students!
