I Am Hamilton t-shirt presented to Tammie Vaillancourt, school nurse at Bess T. Shepherd Elementary
Tammie Vaillancourt, RN, the school nurse at Bess T. Shepherd Elementary, received an “I Am Hamilton” t-shirt for helping to keep children feeling good and in school. The district presents the special shirts to individuals for efforts that positively impact Hamilton County Schools and the children we serve.
Vaillancourt represented the district in a recent Channel 9 news story about school nurses in Hamilton County Schools, and she participated in a story in the Weekly Digest for School Health Professionals.
“I love the kids because they give so much love every day,” Vaillancourt said. “I have worked in a lot of different healthcare settings, but the smiles and the hugs you get from children are a wonderful way to spend your day.”
A school nurse takes care of the children not feeling well at school. Another major part of the school nurses job is to help children with illnesses they deal with each day. She provides these children with their daily dose of medication and even monitors the diets of children with diabetes.
“I am Hamilton” spotlights the contributions of alumni, teachers, parents, students, support workers, and community members providing opportunities for children in the classrooms of Hamilton County Schools. Better opportunities for children today mean a brighter future filled with possibilities for our graduates, their families, and the community.
