“I am Hamilton” spotlights the contributions of alumni, teachers, parents, students, support workers, and community members in providing opportunities for children in the classrooms of Hamilton County Schools. Better opportunities for children today mean a brighter future filled with possibilities for our graduates, their families, and the community.
Today, “I am Hamilton” spotlights Bria Sibley, a teacher at Orchard Knob Elementary. She has returned to the school where she was a student to teach first grade. Sibley also attended Orchard Knob Middle and graduated from Brainerd High School. She can see both sides of education in the Opportunity Zone and wants to show her first-graders the possibilities of life if they take advantage of educational opportunities.
“Any school, anywhere, anything that I have done, I have been a relationship person,” Sibley said. “If I don’t know this child, then I can’t teach this child, so I work very hard the first 20 days of school to build relationships and make our class a family.”
When school is in session, the first graders in Sibley’s class are her children. “I want them to understand that when we are in school, I am momma and they are all my kids. I don’t get to see my baby when we are here at school, so they are all my babies!”
