The Institute of Aviation at Brainerd High incorporates the career-technical education programs of study for aviation flight as well as maintenance and light repair. The curriculum includes learning the principles of flight, access to using a flight simulator, use of drones, engine work and repair, general maintenance, and larger problem solving regarding engine work. Students may want to learn to be a pilot or become certified to work as a mechanic, but there are many other distinct jobs within the aviation field such as counter work for an airline, handling baggage, security, hospitality on board airplanes, painting or upholstery work on aircraft. The established advisory board for this institute includes the Chattanooga Airport, Westar Aviation, Wilson Air, Crystal Air, Chattanooga State, Adventure Sports Innovation, and EEO. Students in this institute will understand that learning does not occur in discrete classrooms, and open their eyes to the global possibilities that will impact their current learning and their future careers.
