related_services

Related services refer to a number of services designed to help a special-needs child benefit from special education. According to the U.S. Department of Education, related services may include transportation (for physical handicaps or severe behavioral issues), speech and language supports, audiological services, psychological services, occupational or physical therapies, and counseling. Special-needs children may be entitled to one or a number of related services. Related services are provided at no cost by schools for children with Individualized Education Programs (IEP). Strong parent advocates will make the case to school or regional staff to get the kinds of related services their child needs.
