2020 What’s Next? Transition Fair

Your school/program/organization is needed!

So, what happens to my child after high school?

It can be a scary question for the family of a student with disabilities when faced with making the decision about what is best for their child’s future. Even with IEPs and transition teams, the task of a plan after high school can be daunting. Most parents are unaware of the possibilities for their students, and are unsure where to look.

The purpose of the 2020 Transition Fair is to share information to the students and families in East Tennessee and the surrounding counties about the many opportunities available after high school. More than 100 state and local vendors will be on hand to answer questions about post-secondary education, training, employment programs, independent living, and benefits and services available. Information will be available for students with all types and levels of disabilities.

Admission is free and open to the public. Students and parents in Hamilton County, as well as all East Tennessee counties, Georgia, Alabama and North Carolina will be invited to attend. Registration will be online and at the door.

Speakers include Hamilton County Schools Administrators, Hamilton County Mayor, Social Security Disability Benefits representative, a former student from the David Lipscomb IDEAL program, Special Olympics, and others.

The benefit from this event is awareness for families and educations resulting in an exponential growth in the rate of engagement in educational and employment programs and independent living for our students with disabilities.
