Today’s #HCSHeroes Spotlight is David Vanzant, Fab Lab Instructor at STEM School Chattanooga. Mr. Vanzant, who has taught at STEM for six years, runs the school’s digital fabrication lab and identifies opportunities for students to learn through hands-on projects across subject areas.
Despite being faced with the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, Mr. Vanzant has found creative ways for local businesses and organizations to still engage with students, which is a vital part of the curriculum. He launched virtual project kickoffs to allow as much interaction as possible between students and local organizations, and he also created virtual project boards so students can receive feedback in real time from their project sponsors.
When asked about his favorite part of his job, Mr. Vanzant replied, “Simply working with the students and connecting them with awesome project opportunities. I love having the opportunity to learn alongside my students through all of these unique projects!”
If you are a Chattanooga-area business or organization interested in creating unique project opportunities for students, Mr. Vanzant would love to hear from you! Email him at [email protected].
The efforts of our teachers and staff are truly heroic, and we are proud to have people like Mr. Vanzant on our team to support our students!
