Reason #4: One-to-one in high schools – a laptop for every student

One-to-one, which is an electronic learning device (laptop) for every student, is coming to high schools in Hamilton County for the new school year. The devices will be Chromebooks and will be available for students shortly after the beginning of the school year.

Hamilton County Schools implemented a one student to one device program for middle school students last school year (2018-2019). This technology integration in the classroom will meet our students' individual learning needs and introduce them to a world of possibilities by enhancing our curriculum through communication, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking.

This program works in conjunction with a learning management system called "Canvas" and an online textbook, Discovery. Discovery, the textbook software, is accessed through Canvas. Each Chromebook has a log-in link to Canvas to allow for easy access by the student. Students must use their district-provided username and password to access these resources. Students are allowed to take the district-issued Chromebook home to work on assignments.

Hamilton County Schools looks forward to expanding one-to-one into the high schools this school year.

The first day of school is important for students of all ages- whether it be the first day of kindergarten or the first day of senior year. Attendance on the first day sets the tone for the rest of the school year. Hamilton County Schools wants every student to be #FirstDayReady!
