Hixson High School offers an impressive range of clubs and after-school programs designed to support students in finding their passion, developing skills, and gaining real-world experience. With options ranging from social media clubs to leadership initiatives, Hixson aims to equip students with tools and knowledge they can carry into their futures.

There is something for every student which fosters a sense of community and connection among the students. Many of the staff cited that high school students involved in extracurricular activities are more likely to develop strong leadership and teamwork skills that benefit them post-graduation. “Students learn time management and responsibility and boost their academic performance by up to 30% when they are involved with a school club or program,” says Dean of Students Coach Hall. Additionally, students engaged in these activities gain exposure to diverse interests and communities, which broadens their perspectives and prepares them for real-world challenges.

Hixson’s clubs encourage community service and connection. Key Club and Beta Club, for instance, are known for their extensive community service hours. Members take on projects that involve them directly in school and community improvement, instilling a strong sense of pride and belonging. Through their efforts, students experience the rewards of giving back, whether by helping local organizations or enhancing the school environment.

For those interested in exploring their creative side, students at Hixson High School can join the media program, which is responsible for producing the school’s yearbook. Students take on roles in photography, editing, and layout design, gaining valuable skills in teamwork. This program, like many others at Hixson, combines hands-on experience with guidance from knowledgeable instructors, giving students a solid foundation in both creativity and technical skills.

Beyond the classroom, Hixson High has partnered with the Northside Neighborhood on an after-school program titled R.O.A.R. (Restoring Opportunity, Achievement, and Resilience). This initiative provides academic support, mentoring, and skill-building activities, ensuring that students have a nurturing space to focus on both academic and personal growth. Programs like R.O.A.R. are essential in helping students build resilience and achieve their goals outside regular school hours.

With such a diverse set of options, Hixson High School encourages students to find their niche and make meaningful connections. As Coach Hall explains, “The school’s ultimate goal is for every student to feel that they matter and to find a group where they feel a sense of belonging.” The culture at Hixson emphasizes support and collaboration, with students, teachers, and community partners working together to create a positive and enriching environment.

Hixson High School offers far more than a traditional education. Through its variety of clubs and after-school programs, the school fosters a sense of family while equipping students with the skills, values, and experiences needed to succeed in life. Every student has the opportunity to explore, learn, and grow, ensuring they are prepared for whatever lies ahead after high school.
