Kaylea is a student ambassador for the UTC Institute and represents the program and school at special functions and meetings. She helps to recruit prospective students into the program and hosts visitors and guests interested in the program. Kaylea recently helped when the school hosted Frank Brogan from the U.S. Department of Education. Along with her institute activities, she is also ranked number one in her class.

“I am Hamilton” spotlights the contributions of alumni, teachers, parents, students, support workers, and community members in providing opportunities for children in the classrooms of Hamilton County Schools. Better opportunities for children today mean a brighter future filled with possibilities for our graduates, their families, and the community.

“This summer, Kaylea had the opportunity to join in work-based learning at Bess T. Shepherd as a Read To Be Ready summer employee,” said Erin Glenn, the Future Ready Institute coach at Tyner Academy. “Thanks to the Future Ready partnership between Tyner Academy and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, she will be well prepared for post-secondary success.”

Future Ready Institutes are in their second year in Hamilton County high schools and are a new career program within a school concept challenging the traditional approach to education by developing career-themed small learning communities. Themes include medicine, robotics, forensic science, engineering, hospitality, technology, business, marketing, and more. Teachers of all content areas, including English, math, science, and social studies, work closely with the career theme teacher to provide classroom instruction through the lens of a career. The goal is for students to clearly understand why a lesson is important and how they will use the information in the future.
