The National Junior Honors Society (NJHS) has selected the NJHS chapter at Chattanooga High School Center for Creative Arts (CCA) as one of the
Outstanding Service Project Award recipients for 2020. Five National Honors Society and Five National Junior Honors Society projects are selected for this recognition each year. Angi Donen, CCA counselor for middle grades, leads the reading service project, and Cody Murphy, the musical theater instructor, is the co-sponsor for NJHS at CCA that includes seventh through ninth-grade members.
For over fifteen years, the NJHS students at the Center for Creative Arts have coordinated the “Seuss on the Loose” project. Teams of NJHS members from CCA travel to local elementary schools and perform a skit that is an adaption of a Dr. Seuss book. The students also read to the students at the schools.
“The main goal of this project is to connect with local students and demonstrate artistic talent while providing community service through reading and storytelling,” said Angi Donen.
The Outstanding Service Project (OSP) awards recognize the National Honor Society and National Junior Honor Society chapters that have made significant service contributions at the local level. Honor Society members perform millions of hours of service in the more than 27,000 active chapters. The awards were established in 1994 to recognize chapters that have made a significant impact through service.
