“When I started my sixth-grade year I went to the counselor and let her know that I wanted to be in the band no matter what it took to work into my schedule,” Tinker said. “I got my wish and received a tryout and started playing the flute.”

Tinker moved quickly from the flute to learning the saxophone, and a variety of other instruments during her time at Lookout Valley.

“She is motivational, inspirational and wise beyond her years,” said Shannon Stephens, band instructor at Lookout Valley Middle/High. “Her leadership and dedication are why the band at Lookout Valley has become so successful.”

“I am ready for something new, so I am super excited for graduation,” Tinker added.

She will attend the University of Tennessee at Knoxville in the fall to study music education, and she hopes to return to Hamilton County Schools to teach one day.
