Center for Creative Arts senior is a U.S. Presidential Scholars semi-finalist
Zavier Chavez, a senior at the Chattanooga High School Center for Creative Arts (CCA), has advanced to the final round of the 2019 U.S. Presidential Scholars competition. Chavez is one of 621 semi-finalists from across the country and among the 14 from Tennessee moving on in the competition.
Chavez was selected as a candidate for the competition for his demonstrated excellence in academics. He is no stranger to recognition, as he is valedictorian of his graduating class and Senior Class president at CCA. Chavez is an active participant on the Center for Creative Arts campus. He is active in the arts, studies Jazz music, and is the drummer in the school’s Jazz band. Chavez has been accepted to Harvard University in the fall, and plans to study to become a lawyer.
The U.S. Presidential Scholars competition was established in 1964, originally to recognize and honor students to demonstrated exceptional academic abilities. The competition was later extended to recognize exceptional students in both the creative and performing arts and career and technical programs as well. Out of over 3 million graduating high school seniors, just over 5,000 are selected as candidates, with 621 chosen as semi-finalists this year. Follow this

Of the semi-finalists, 161 students will be chosen to receive the Presidential Scholars honor, one of the top recognitions for high school students in the nation.
