parent university logoA new school year is an exciting time for kids, parents, teachers and the community. Hamilton County Schools wants to build on that excitement by bringing everyone together for a new school year celebration. The event will launch a new school year and a new opportunity for parents to get involved in their child’s education. The kickoff celebration will be held on Saturday, August 4 at the First Tennessee Pavilion from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The celebration of the start of a new school year will include fun activities, plenty of food and information to get the school year off to a great start.

The kickoff event will include free school supplies, free food, and the first 200 school-age children will receive a free backpack. The event will also include a lot of fun activities including face painting, blow-up play activities, snow cones, ice cream, and interactive learning activities from the Chattanooga Public Library and Creative Discovery Museum.

Families will get to meet the new Learning Community Executive Directors who are the new heads of the community groupings for our schools. These new school groupings called Learning Communities in Hamilton County Schools will provide more of a community atmosphere between schools in a geographical area and better serve the people and businesses surrounding the schools. The Learning Communities are Harrison Bay, Missionary Ridge, North River, Rock Point and the Opportunity Zone. Parents will also be able to sign-up for PowerSchool and learn more about Parent University.

Hamilton County Schools, in conjunction with the Urban League of Greater Chattanooga and First Things First, will also launch Parent University at the August 4 event. Parent University is a district and community effort aimed at supporting parents and families to help kids get the most out of school, and prepare children for success after graduation.

Parent University will be organized into 20 sessions held quarterly during the school year with sessions located throughout the community. Topics and locations for Parent University sessions will be announced soon.
