Wallace Smith Elem Presented 20-21 Level 5 BannerChattanooga, Tenn. (Oct. 1, 2021) -- Hamilton County Schools (HCS) continues its trajectory towards excellence, as the district far exceeded the state growth standard in its 2020-21 Tennessee Value-Added Assessment System (TVAAS) results with 32 schools achieving Level 5 Status.

Wallace Smith Elementary was presented with a banner today recognizing its Level 5 distinction.

“We are extremely proud of Hamilton County Schools continued growth toward our Future Ready 2023 goals,” said Dr. Nakia Towns. “Our students and teachers worked hard in a time of unprecedented challenges to earn this distinction and we are excited to celebrate their accomplishments today.”

“Wallace Smith Elementary is honored to once again be recognized as a Level 5 School,” said Sharon Dodds, Wallace Smith Elementary Principal. “We worked to find new ways to engage our students to help them grow, and this distinction proves our efforts have succeeded.”


Accomplishment
34 schools earned Level 5 or Reward status from the Tennessee Department of Education. Wallace Smith Elementary in the Harrison Bay Learning Community displays the new banner from the state recognizing their accomplishment. Level 5 schools are those with significant evidence that their students exceeded the state growth standard. Level 5 schools are those that demonstrate overall growth and student achievement.

Reward Schools
Wallace Smith Elementary also achieved Reward School status. Reward schools are those that receive an overall high rating when measuring multiple areas, including student achievement and growth, across all students and student groups. Reward designation is the highest honor for school accountability measures in Tennessee.


Historic Achievement
TVAAS measures academic growth for districts and schools using a range from Level 1 to Level 5. The district's overall composite and each composite subject area achieved Level 5 - the highest level of academic growth. The subjects include literacy, numeracy, and overall. There were 32 schools earning Level 5 distinction. The combination of growth and achievement data clearly illustrates Hamilton County Schools' progress toward its five year strategic plan, Future Ready 2023. The plan provides focus for continued improvement in all areas, from academics to operations. HCS remains the fastest improving school district in Tennessee.
