Dr. James Corbin is retired from the Orlando Police Department, Orlando, FL, where he served in the SRO program for 15 years. First 4 years at Memorial Junior High School and then 11 years at William R. Boone High School, after retiring Dr. Corbin and his wife created a very successful training/consulting company in the areas of School Safety and School Violence. Additionally, their company has trained School Resource and School Safety Officers across the United States, including the SRO’s of Hamilton County since 1998, using a combination of experience and education unparalleled by any other resource.

Dr. Corbin became a part of the Hamilton County School’s team in December of 2019 as the Coordinator of Student Safety. In the past few months he has selected, equipped, trained, assigned and supervised the Student Safety Officers of Hamilton County while continuing to work very closely with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office and their School Resource Officers to help protect the students and staff in the schools of Hamilton County.

Tim Beelen, Student Security Officer

I grew up in Holland Michigan and graduated from Holland Christian High school. I attended Grand Valley State University and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice.

I am a retired police officer from the Holland Department of Public Safety after 25 years of service. My last five years I was assigned to the Detective Bureau working with the Children Advocacy Center of Ottawa County investigating crimes against children.

My wife and I relocated to Tennessee in May 2020 with our two daughters. I have four grown children two sons who still live in Michigan and two daughters in college. I accepted the position of Student Safety Officer with HCDE in September of 2020.

James Brock, Student Security Officer

After I graduated from Soddy Daisy High School in 1980, I enlisted in the United States Army for 4 years. When I returned home I became a Police Officer for Chattanooga Police Department (CPD) where I would stay for the next 25 years. During my career with CPD I had the opportunity to work in various divisions. I served as a Patrol Officer, Mounted Patrol, Narcotics, Special Operations, Bike Patrol, S.W.A.T. The last 5 years with CPD were in the training division where I served as the Range Master and Lead Firearms Instructor. After my retirement from CPD I packed up and headed to Iraq to work as a private contractor. In Iraq I served as a body guard for the US State Department and then as Range Master at the US Embassy in Bagdad, Iraq. Upon my return to the States, I became a Sheriff’s Deputy with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office. I worked as a School Resource Officer (SRO) and was assigned to Tyner High School where I have spent the last 7 years before retiring from Law Enforcement.

I am excited to be working for Hamilton County Department of Education as a Student Security Officer (SSO). I look forward to being part of making sure our schools are a safer place for both our children and teachers.

Michael Darty,  Student Security Officer

I am excited for the opportunity to be a School Security Officer for the Hamilton County Schools as it allows me to maximize my past experience in both security and education. I served as a police officer for ten years where I commanded the SWAT team and supervised the E-911 system. I am also a current member of the Alabama National Guard, where I have served for 32 years as a military police officer, Security Advisor and Senior Religious Affairs Advisor. I am particularly proud of my two post 9/11 deployments: Operation Noble Eagle (2001-02) where I was responsible for security for Alabama’s five commercial airports and Operation Enduring Freedom (2013-14) where I commanded the soldiers and contractors operating the Persistent Surveillance System at Camp Bala Hissar, Afghanistan.

I am also a certified teacher for grades 6-12. I taught history for 17 years at Pleasant Grove High School, a 5A school in a Birmingham suburb decimated by the April 2011 tornadoes. I also served as the Head Varsity Soccer Coach and an Assistant Coach for both the high school and middle school football teams. I retired in August 2020 from the State of Alabama.

A native of Carbon Hill, Alabama, I graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in History. Roll Tide! After living in Vestavia Hills (a Birmingham suburb) for almost 20 years, I relocated to Chattanooga in Summer 2020 after my wife accepted a job with McKee Foods. My wife is an attorney and family-business consultant. My daughter is a sophomore at the University of Mississippi in the Early-Entry Pharmacy Program and my son is an 8th grader at East Hamilton Middle School. As a family, we love to attend sporting events (especially Alabama football and professional soccer) and travel. We are also huge Disney World fanatics and have been every year since 2005. I also enjoy hunting and woodworking.

William L. Durham, Student Security Officer

My name is William L. (LeBron) Durham and I am a Student Safety Officer with the Hamilton County Department of Education.

I have been married for 43 years to my wonderful wife, Gale. We have two grown children and seven awesome grandchildren (with one on the way).

I have served the law enforcement profession for 42 years in numerous capacities such as patrol, criminal investigation, gang task force commander, school resource officer (14 years) and D.A.R.E / C.H.A.M.P.S instructor.

I also served as a Children’s Pastor for 9 years.

My desire is to work with you to continue providing a totally safe and enjoyable campus while building working, friend, relationships with both staff and students.

I am honored and thankful for the opportunity to serve.

Adrian David Gibb, Student Security Officer

I have been in law enforcement for 30 years. My career began in 1987 as a corrections officer for The Hamilton County workhouse (CCA) and from there I moved to the Chattanooga Police Department where I served our community for 28 years.

During my time with the police department, I worked in several units including Traffic, DUI, SWAT and patrol. I was promoted to Sergeant and was a supervisor for the traffic/DUI units as well as a field supervisor for multiple patrol zones. Later I would become a Lieutenant and command the Traffic Operations side of Special Operations which included several units…Traffic, DUI, School Patrol, Beer and Taxi Bureau, Special Events and Honor Guard. I concluded my career as the acting Captain and was the commander of the Special Operations Division to include both Traffic and Tactical Operations

I’m extremely pleased to have the opportunity to put my years of experience to now serve our most vital segment of our community…our children and teachers. I have no doubt this experience will be very rewarding and my intent is to influence our children to make the most of their lives and contribute to our community in a positive way.

Kevin Moses, Student Security Officer

I was born and raised in Ringgold, Georgia and graduated from Ringgold High School.

Shortly after graduating, I joined the Chattanooga Police Department. I was employed as a Patrol Officer for seven years (2003-2010). During my time with CPD, I got married (Heidi Moses) and completed my Bachelors Degree in Management (Covenant College).

After leaving the police department, I started a landscaping business with my father. I was also substitute teaching with Hamilton County and Catoosa County (Ga.) Schools during this time.

In 2010, my first and only child (Kaden) was born.

In 2016, I had the opportunity to return to law enforcement and accepted a position with the Hamilton County Rangers. I worked for the Rangers from 2016 until 2020. During my time with the Rangers, I was promoted to Ranger Sergeant.

I accepted the position of Student Security Officer with HCDE in March of 2020. I enjoy spending time with my family in my off time. We enjoy outdoor activities and sporting events. I currently reside in Ooltewah, Tennessee.

Andy Neufeld, Student Security Officer

I have lived in the Chattanooga area for most of my life.

I attended a local private school system where I met my wife. We have been blessed with a son and hope to grow our family.

I graduated the Tennessee Police academy in 2009 and completed an A.S. Degree in Criminal justice in 2012.

My first law enforcement job was a Hamilton County park ranger and I worked there for almost seven years.

I enjoy spending my free time with my family and friends.

My hobbies include wood working, camping watching/attending Nashville Predators games, and mountain biking.

Jim Tizzio, Student Security Officer

My name is James “Jim” Tizzio.

I have been in Law Enforcement for about forty years.

I worked for a Sheriff’s Office in Florida for five years, then the Winter Park Police Department in Florida also for over twenty-six years.

I retired from there in 2010 and moved to Tennessee with my wife in February of 2010.

I joined the Signal Mountain Police Department in June of 2010 as their only detective and retired in March of this year.

I have three grown children and five grandchildren.

I heard about the Student Safety Officer positions and wanted to join the Hamilton County School System, to help keep our children in a safe and secure learning environment.

Tim Yates, Student Security Officer

I am from Chattanooga and graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1981. I then joined the Air Force and was a military police officer. When my enlistment ended I took a job with the U.S. Department of Energy as a counter terrorist tactical team member.

In 1990 I returned to Chattanooga and joined The Chattanooga Police Department and served for 28 years. During my time with the Chattanooga Police Department I worked patrol for 10 years in this area, east Chattanooga, Highland Park and East Lake. I then became a narcotics Detective for 12 years and finished up my career as an auto theft Detective. I was also a member of the Chattanooga Police S.W.A.T. for 10 years. I have been retired for approximately 2 years.
