One student told me that she didn’t like to read until she found this book. Now she is one of my biggest readers..

Renee Ziemann, a Librarian at Sale Creek Middle

Heartache and Other Natural Shocks is the Hamilton Book of the Week nominated by Renee Ziemann, a Librarian at Sale Creek Middle & High School. Heartache and Other Natural Shocks is a page-turning young-adult novel told from the alternating voices of two witty, sharp-edged teenage girls who compete for a role in the school production of Hamlet and the same local bad boy, in a game of deception, betrayal, and swordplay.

From GoodReads.com:

“The book Heartache and Other Natural Shocks, takes you into the 1970s, with two girls who have absolutely nothing in common. I have never read a book where the two point of views are so different. Jules' fight with her reality being torn apart is captivating and Carla represents the struggle of every high school girl who wants to fit in and feel important. This page turner kept me captivated from the start and I never put it down once.”
