Hamilton County School Social Workers are trained mental health professionals who hold a degree in social work from a University accredited by the Council on Social Work Education and are licensed through the Tennessee Department of Education.

School Social Workers are trauma-informed practitioners who serve as a link between home, school, and community by providing direct and indirect services to students, families, and school personnel to enhance students’ academic and social-emotional success. School social workers work collaboratively with administrators, teachers, and school counselors in order to identify needs and provide the services needed to resolve social, emotional, and behavioral barriers through:

 

Providing evidence-based education, behavior, and mental health services

  • Individual & and group mental health counseling
  • Implement multi-tiered systems of support
  • Crisis management services, including safety assessments

Promoting a school climate and culture conducive to student learning and teaching excellence

  • Train teachers and staff on Trauma-Informed Practices
  • Educate staff on academic barriers such as homelessness, transportation, nutrition, etc.
  • Support and facilitate collaborative relationships with students, staff, school, home, and community

Maximizing access to school-based and community based resources

  • Provide support to students and families by connecting to district and community resources.
  • Work with Mc-Kinney Vento (Families in Transition) Liaison to identify students and families who qualify for services and provide ongoing support
  • IEP/504/Behavior Plan consultation and supports
