College and Career Readiness

The TN Promise is a scholarship for two free college years toward an Associate's Degree or Technical Certification. The TN Promise FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) deadline is extended to March 1, 2022. For families who have not submitted financial aid applications and are interested in TN Promise, there is still time.

Families of 12th-grade students must complete the FAFSA to receive state and federal financial aid for college and must apply for TN Promise. Click here to get information on how to fill out the FAFSA. Other TN Promise resources to assist parents are available here

Additionally, in partnership with Parent University, the HCS College and Career Department has released videos to help families prepare for college. These are the first in a series with more to come. These videos help students and parents navigate through the financial aid and college application process.

TCAP Information

Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program (TCAP) scores are now available.  Parents can access to TCAP score reports that detail a student's performance on end of course and end of year state tests.  These reports also provide parents with next steps to support their child's academic success.

After the testing period, parents will receive a printed TCAP score report from their student's school for each state assessment their child completes. Parents can connect to the Tennessee Family Portal to access student's score reports and view more details.  The Family Portal Help Guide is a helpful tool which step-by-step goes through how to access the portal and TCAP score information.  Also take a look at the Hamilton County Schools TCAP Parent Portal How to video as a walk-through of the portal and how to read the score reports.

To access your account, expect a form similar to the one below coming home with your student.  This form will include the user ID or USID number needed to set up an account through the Tennessee Family Parent Portal.  Parents can also pull the student's USID number from PowerSchool under the Grades and Attendance tab on the left of the PowerSchool Portal window, as shown below.  View a copy of the TCAP Parent Brochure for an overview of the Comprehensive Assessment Program Report.
