(Chattanooga, Tennessee) - Hamilton County Schools (HCS) and BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee (BCBST) hosted the first annual Equity in Action Symposium on Thursday, April 13, 2023.
The Equity in Action Symposium brought together the HCS Equity in Action Committee, comprised of 65 teachers, staff members, and administrators, with Community Partners to provide insight and learning surrounding diversity, equity, and inclusion practices.
“We strongly believe our diversity is one of our greatest strengths. I am grateful our Equity in Action Teams had this opportunity to come together and collaborate on new ideas to continue improving access to opportunities within our schools,” said Dr. Justin Robertson, HCS Superintendent. “Thank you to BlueCross BlueShield for hosting the symposium for our staff, we know education is a shared responsibility, and we appreciate the work of our community partners supporting our students.”
In March 2021, the Hamilton County Board of Education unanimously passed the Educational Equity Policy as a commitment to the district’s belief that all students should be afforded the resources and support to thrive. The Equity in Action Committees and Symposium demonstrate our commitment to this belief. During the symposium, internal and external stakeholders joined together and chose four breakout sessions from a selection of 8 learning opportunities.
