Today’s #HCSHeroes Spotlight is Sarah Moran, a kindergarten teacher at North Hamilton County Elementary School. Ms. Moran was nominated because of how she’s supported kindergarten families during remote learning.
“For our family, she's the calm during all this other school/online learning chaos,” said Misty Satterwhite, a parent at North Hamilton County Elementary. “I love the way she has everything laid out and planned for each day. I'm not sure how everyone else is doing it, but I have no stress at all when it comes to my daughter's assignments or what's expected of her. Ms. Moran makes it easier for me to be able to help my other two children navigate their more difficult layout and get all three of them through the day!”
Ms. Moran is in her 4th year with Hamilton County Schools, and like most teachers this year, she’s balancing teaching students both on campus and through remote learning. As a kindergarten teacher, Ms. Moran faces a unique challenge with reaching young students remotely who have never attended school.
“Besides academics, a major part of kindergarten is learning to be around and interact with others,” said Ms. Moran. “In order to offer at-home students communication and interaction opportunities, they log on to Zoom every morning to see in-school children and to participate in our Calendar and Morning Meeting time. We also meet together as a small group later in the afternoon.”
Ms. Moran adds, “I really try to instill in my kiddos that whatever we do, we always do our best, but when we have questions, we ask them to make sure we understand so we can be successful. Communication and interaction are vital for kindergarteners to grow and succeed, but even more so in this unprecedented time.”
The efforts of our teachers and staff are truly heroic, and we are proud to have people like Ms. Moran on our team to support our students!
