Today’s #HCSHeroes Spotlights are Lori Whitney and Jamie Brock, gifted teachers at Signal Mountain Middle/High School. The pair were nominated because of their willingness to go the extra mile to support their students and their families.
“These two ladies have been absolutely precious over the years,” said Emily Fraker, a parent. “They consistently go above and beyond their ‘job’ to help their students succeed in whatever they do. They have both been extremely helpful while we tried to navigate HCS at Home. Both of these ladies deserve the HCS Heroes capes for helping our entire family navigate middle and high school!”
Mrs. Whitney and Mrs. Brock help gifted students by providing them with academic challenges in their areas of strength. They also provide social-emotional support and skills, and support for transition into high school and adulthood.
Like all educators, COVID-19 has presented obstacles for them as they navigate changes inside and outside of the classroom. “This year has been a challenge in a number of ways, but having open communication with the students, teachers, and parents provides an opportunity to explore options,” said Mrs. Whitney.
Despite the challenges, the duo has relied on teamwork to keep moving forward. Mrs. Brock adds, “Working together we have been able to make the best of this situation.”
The efforts of our teachers and staff are truly heroic, and we are proud to have people like Mrs. Brock and Mrs. Whitney on our team to support our students!
