I Am Hamilton Dr. Aleisha McCallie, a teacher at East Brainerd Elementary School
“I am Hamilton” spotlights teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week. Today’s teacher spotlight shines on Dr. Aleisha McCallie, a fifth-grade math and science teacher at East Brainerd Elementary School. I am Hamilton” spotlights the contributions of alumni, teachers, parents, students, support workers, and community members in providing opportunities for children in the classrooms of Hamilton County Schools. Better opportunities for children today mean a brighter future filled with possibilities for our graduates, their families, and the community.
Dr. McCallie hosts daily “family meetings” to foster positive relationships and a strong sense of community at East Brainerd Elementary. “Dr. McCallie is an incredible teammate and teaching partner,” said Mary Marks, fifth-grade partner teacher at East Brainerd Elementary. “She is knowledgeable in her content area and regularly meets the needs of all of our shared students.”
“I have seen first-hand the meaningful relationships that she has built with each one of her students,” commented Michelle Noland, fifth-grade lead teacher at East Brainerd. “Her love and passion for teaching are evident as you can tell by the lessons that she prepares for her students daily.”
“I’m lucky to have spent the year working alongside Dr. McCallie in 5th grade,” said Carly Hayes, a fifth-grade teacher. “Her drive as an educator is inspiring.”
“She works hard to see growth in all of her students and truly values providing an excellent learning experience for her children by meeting them exactly where they are at each day,” said Erica Davis, a fifth-grade teacher.
“It is an honor and privilege to work alongside someone as passionate as her,” added Marks.
Dr. McCallie earned her doctorate from Trevecca Nazarene University in Leadership and Professional Practice. She has taught in third, fourth, and fifth grades in Nashville and Chattanooga. Beginning in the fall, Dr. McCallie will move into the position of instructional coach at Orchard Knob Middle School.
Recently, Dr. McCallie was selected and inducted as a Butterfield Fellow with the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. She was also selected as a Tennessee Educator Fellow for SCORE for the 2018-2019 school year.
“As Dr. McCallie continues to grow professionally, I am sure she will continue to contribute to the field of education and make a positive impact on the lives of the children that she works with each day,” said Dr. Marthel Young, principal at East Brainerd Elementary.
A different teacher will be featured in “I am Hamilton” each day this week during Teacher Appreciation Week.
