I Am Hamilton shirt presented to Katherine Blake, an eighth-grade teacher at Normal Park Museum Magnet
Katherine Blake, an eighth-grade teacher at Normal Park Museum Magnet School, received an “I Am Hamilton” shirt for her work in the classroom and building a mentor program at the school. The district presents the special shirts to individuals for efforts that positively impact Hamilton County Schools and the children we serve.
“Mrs. Blake has worked this year to build a teacher-student mentoring program for our students new to Normal Park. She started this summer by recruiting teachers in the building to serve as mentors to the new students and then invited the new students to an orientation one day in the summer to meet their mentors and learn about our school. She has also organized meetings with mentors and mentees and has made sure to follow up with them throughout the year so that the process is continuing to work and is helpful to our school’s new students. Mrs. Blake is continuously going above and beyond to serve the students in our school and enhance our learning environment,” wrote Carrie Willmore, principal of Normal Park Museum Magnet Upper School, in her nomination of Katherine Blake.
“I am Hamilton” spotlights the contributions of alumni, teachers, parents, students, support workers, and community members providing opportunities for children in the classrooms of Hamilton County Schools. Better opportunities for children today mean a brighter future filled with possibilities for our graduates, their families, and the community. James Howard will be the subject of an “I Am Hamilton” video feature next week.
