Students from Hamilton County Collegiate High School at Chattanooga State will demonstrate their mechatronics skills at the Volkswagen Academy Open House on Thursday, Feb. 21 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The students will showcase what they have learned in the cooperative program with Volkswagen.
Volkswagen Academy is an educational collaboration between Hamilton County Schools, Chattanooga State Community College, and Volkswagen Chattanooga. The program was put in place to offer hands-on experience with cutting-edge technology and robotronics to both high school and college students. The two-year program, called Mechatronics Akademie, accepts 11th-grade students from Hamilton County Schools. During the open house event, students currently enrolled in the program will demonstrate engine building, working on the Passat, the bucket challenge, and their new VEX robot.
Hamilton County Schools is currently accepting students for the Mechatronics Akademie for the 2019-2020 school year. The program allows students to work on-site at the Volkswagen facility, earning high school and college credit while gaining real-world experience. The Mechatronics program provides a pathway to post-secondary education or the possibility of acceptance into the Volkswagen Apprenticeship program. The open house will provide details about Volkswagen Academy and the training programs offered, as well as a chance to tour and explore the state-of-the-art facility.
The open house will be held at Volkswagen Academy, located at 7469 Volkswagen Drive.
