“I am Hamilton” spotlights the contributions of alumni, teachers, parents, students, support workers, and community members in providing opportunities for children in the classrooms of Hamilton County Schools. Better opportunities for children today mean a brighter future filled with possibilities for our graduates, their families, and the community.
Today, “I am Hamilton” spotlights Kelly Houston, the cafeteria manager at Loftis Middle School. Kelly has been at Loftis for ten years. She has experience with children as an employee of the system and also as a parent as her three children attended Hamilton County Schools.
“Middle school is very, very critical because the kids are trying to find themselves,” Houston said. “The impact that I can have – just a little smile, just a little attention, or just a little bit of love- it’s all that I am here for at Loftis.”
Houston wants to make lunch the best part of the day for the children at Loftis Middle. “If we can have three seconds of their day where they just smile,” Houston added. “You don’t know what they may have been through – maybe they had a test or just a bad day.”
