I Am Hamilton t-shirt presented to Mr. Joe, a volunteer at North Hamilton County Elementary
Joe Barbeauld, a volunteer at North Hamilton County Elementary, received an “I Am Hamilton” t-shirt for helping children with reading and math. The district presents the special shirts to individuals for efforts that positively impact Hamilton County Schools and the children we serve.
“A couple of years ago we needed volunteers to work with our students in reading and math, and Joe was one of the first to show up,” said Jacquie Hauth, the principal at North Hamilton County Elementary. “His first day of volunteering he said it was “the longest day of his life,” but he was here early the next day and has been early every volunteer day since.”
Students look for “Mr. Joe” in the mornings. He is not just there for them in academics; he also attends award assemblies and performances to support the children at North Hamilton.
“Seeing kids learn and enjoy learning is the biggest satisfaction I get from volunteering,” said Barbeauld. “I just like to see that light bulb go off in a kid’s face when they learn something and know that they can do it now.”
“I am Hamilton” spotlights the contributions of alumni, teachers, parents, students, support workers, and community members providing opportunities for children in the classrooms of Hamilton County Schools. Better opportunities for children today mean a brighter future filled with possibilities for our graduates, their families, and the community.
