In December 2022, the Tyner Academy Rams became the Football Class 2A State Champions. Leading this charge was the team's Senior Quarterback, Josh Jackson.
This year was Josh’s first season as Tyner’s starting quarterback. During the year, he battled moments of hesitation in his role as he adjusted to the pressure and responsibilities of leading the team. It has taken a lot of dedication and hard work for Josh to be recognized and to get to where he is today, as he was overlooked in the past. But his hard work, both in recent years and this season, has paid off in a big way.
Josh is an incredible leader and has made strong connections with his coaches and teammates. On December 3rd, Tyner Academy battled against Decatur County’s Riverside in the Class 2A State Championship. At first, Tyner was down by 15 points, yet Josh said, “We had trust, and we had faith in one another. We knew what we were capable of, so I never once thought we were going to lose that game.” Once they won, Josh admitted he even cried. Their hard work had paid off, and they were proud of one another and their accomplishments.
Josh started his football career when he was only four years old, and his love for the sport slowly grew on him over the years. Josh has had support from his grandmother as she took on the roles of “mother and father” in his life. However, she always reminded him that school comes first before football, and he listened.
Josh is a thriving student with excellent grades and is also an active member of the community. Josh goes to various centers to play with kids and has even started making his Podcasts to inspire children to follow in his footsteps. “If we want to change generations in the future, you have to start with the present,” said Josh.
Josh’s journey has changed tremendously since last year. He never thought he would play at the collegiate level, but now with multiple offers coming his way, Josh knows he's going to play in college. Josh wants to major in Exercise Science to stay around sports for as long as possible. Josh Jackson is a fantastic leader, student, quarterback, and person. He remains humble by expressing that he would not be where he is without the support from his coaches, teammates, family, and friends.
