If you are interested in working as a teacher in the Hamilton County Schools ESOL Department, you must have a valid Tennessee teaching license and ESL endorsement.

In addition to the traditional interview process, teachers applying for an ESOL teaching position must demonstrate their fluency in the English language (Reading, Writing, Speaking, Listening). During the question/answer portion of the interview process, the applicant Speaking and Listening skills are assessed. In addition, the applicants Reading fluency is evaluated through oral reading and text response and/or through college transcript evaluation (if from an English speaking university). To evaluate Writing fluency, the applicant is required to complete a writing sample based on a prompt. The writing sample is scored using a rubric.
