The 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 school calendars are now on the Hamilton County Schools website to help you plan your family or organizational schedule. The Hamilton County Board of Education approved a few minor changes to the 2019-2020 school year calendar at the May meeting.

The 2019-2020 school year will begin on Wednesday, August 7, and the school district is working with the community to get all students “First Day Ready” for the big day. There will be events, school supply drives, and the annual Back to School Bash on Saturday, August 3 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the First Tennessee Pavilion. A few highlights of the calendar include Fall Break, October 7 – 11; Thanksgiving, November 27 – 29; Winter Break, December 19 – January 3 for students; Spring Break, April 3 – 10; and the last day of school on May 21. The minor alterations to next school year approved in May included changing three school days to half-days for students to allow more time for teacher planning. Schools will dismiss students and buses will run on an early release schedule on Wednesday, September 4, 2019; Wednesday, November 13, 2019; and Wednesday, February 5, 2020. Teachers will be able to use the time in the afternoon on those three days to plan classroom instruction or engage in teacher team planning.

To help families, businesses, and organizations plan their calendars in advance; Hamilton County Schools started adopting school calendars a year ahead in the spring of 2018. The Hamilton County Board of Education approved the calendar for the 2020-2021 school year at the May, board meeting this year. The calendar includes traditional calendar features of the past few years. Those include a week-long fall break, a short week for Thanksgiving, and a spring break that is adjacent to Good Friday and Easter holidays. The full 2020-2021 calendar is also now available online.
